Text Publishing have opened their Children and Young Adults Writing Competition again. See here for details.
‘Both published and unpublished writers of all ages are eligible to enter with works of fiction or non-fiction. Judged by a panel of editors from Text Publishing, the winner will receive a publishing contract with Text and a $10,000 advance against royalties.’
You can see the 2008, 2009, 2010 winners to get an idea. It closes June 1st, so set yourself a deadline and submit.
Posting mine today
Fingers crossed for you, Louise.
Thanks Rowena
I didn’t win, but I was in the top three! I just returned from the party in Melbourne.
Louise, I am delighted. Since you were in the top three you may be able to use this to get an agent, or to get your foot int he door with the YA editor at Harper Collins.
Your rejection at this point will be about the ‘fit’ of your story for their line, rather than the writing.
Fingers crossed for you.
Thanks Rowena. I’ve already let the Harper Collins editor know (she’s partway through reading another book of mine). Now I just need to figure out ways to casually mention it to all the other publishers who have my work on their desk at the moment
It’s certainly true that Text isn’t big on specfic. Not everyone is, and that’s part of life.
